Monee's White wins Illiana feature

SCHERERVILLE | Make it two in a row for Mike White in super late model stock carfeature competition at Illiana Motor Speedway.

The former four-time track champion from Monee won the 30-lapMolenaar Classic/Midseason Championship race on Saturday night.

On top of the current division standings, White guided Tom Rose'sChevy Impala SS to his second win of the season after aside-by-side battle for the lead with Dyer's Jack Kalwasinski.Leading from lap one, Kalwasinski was out front with 17 lapscomplete when the race's only yellow flag slowed the action aftersecond place-running Jerry Sharp's car blew a power steering hosewith Sharp pulling off on the back straightaway.

White moved into second place, and the veteran wasted little timegoing for the top spot, edging inside of Kalwasinski and tradingleads for eight laps around the half-mile paved oval.

White finally grabbed first place for good on lap 27 and scored thewin in front of Josh Nelms by a 0.240-second margin. Kalwasinskislipped to third at the checkered flag with Mike Monroe and JeffCannon of Kouts rounding out the top five.

"That was more fun than I've had in a long time," White said. "ThatJack (Kalwasinski), he's a champion out here, and he proved it. Hedrove a heckuva race there. We had some good, clean side-by-sideracing."

Again having a strong run, Anthony Danta of Orland Park capturedthe 30-lap Schepel Performance late model headliner. Danta and hisChevrolet garnered feature win No. 4 on the season ahead of JohnSenerchia, division leader John Nutley and Bobby Gash.

On Illiana's quarter-mile oval, Lansing's Tony Meier pushed hisfastback Monte Carlo into the lead on lap nine and held off classpoints leader Eddie Ligue to score the win in the 30-lap Turbo Stoxmain event. Blake Brown of Franksville, Wis., was the winner of the20-lap Legend Cars feature race, besting Jeremie Johnson and ChrisKing of Kouts.

Former division champion Dave Jacobs of Gary was declared thewinner of the 15-lap Pure Stock feature after apparent winner TimCronin and second-place finisher Mike Lindemulder were disqualifiedin post-race inspection. It was the second consecutive victory forthe 2006 titlist.
