Momentive, Anabond team up to make SPUR sealants

Friday , June 27, 2008 at 0009 hrs Momentive Performance Materials Inc. (formerly GE Bayer Silicones)has tied up with Chennai-based Anabond to develop, manufacture andmarket SPUR sealants used mainly by the construction and automobileindustries.
SPUR sealant is a hybrid that exhibits excellent properties interms of non-stain, non-bleed, paintable, high strength,primerliess adhesion, fast cure and durable.
Momentive is a premier speciality materials company, withworld-wide operations, providing high-technology materialssolutions to the silicones, quartz and ceramics markets. Momentiveis setting up its own plant at Orgadam, investing $25 million, tomanufacture various silicon products.
Anabond is the first Indian company to manufacture anaerobicadhesives and sealants, RTV silicone sealants and single componentepoxies. It is a mjor manufacturer and supplier of liquid gasketsfor Indian automobile engine and transmission in India.
Utilising Momentive technology and expertise, Anabond willmanufacture SPUR selants at its Pondicherry plant. The product isexpected to be available in the market by February 2009.
Momentive and Anabond have agreed to jointly develop SPUR sealantsand market them in the defined areas. Momentive will market thisproduct in the construction segment and Anabond in the automotiveand electrical and electronics segment under license fromMomentive. Other areas not specified under the agreement are opento both the companies for marketing their products based on mutualunderstanding.
Momentive will provide all necessary technical inputs and supportto Anabond for any experiments / trials by extending theirApplication Development Facility (s) in India or overseas. Theywill also assist Anabond in developing formulation and process forthe compounding of SPUR sealants. Momentive will also provideproduction technology, supply of raw materials, packing materialsand training to Anabonds production team, V P Nalian, managingdirector, Momentive Performance Materials said.
He said Anabonds expertise in the adhesive and sealants area,especially in the automotive industry, combined with theirmanufacturing capabilities would help us develop high end SPURSealant applications and bring this world class product to theIndian customers in a cost-effective manner.
