CNC Engineering Retrofits Grinders with New GE Fanuc Controls
"Enhance your old grinder currently equipped with anunsupported, proprietary control system by re-controlling it withthe same state-of-the-art GE Fanuc control system that isavailable/offered on many new grinding machines," said acompany spokesperson. "Imagine the machine having a PC frontend with a conversational programmer. Further imagine the abilityto have the same user-friendly interface that your new machineshave. This provides the possibility of having one common front endthroughout your grind department. That is exactly what can beachieved with Open Vision HMI(tm) Grind. An enhanced user-friendlygrind front end that is available on new grinders through grinderOEM's as well as retrofits for your existing machines.
"CNC Engineering has retrofit/integrated hundreds of grinderswith new GE Fanuc controls. Our team, consisting of control &grind process engineers, has over 150 years of grind specificexperience. This combined knowledge and expertise has allowed thedevelopment, from the ground up, of a true grind software package:Open Vision HMI Grind. This package is designed for internal (ID),external (OD), form and specialty grinding applications.
"During development, traditional and advanced grindcapabilities were implemented as a standard. A partial listincludes machine configuration capability to allow support of over12 different servo configurations, CBN Adaptive control, AE sensorintegration for dress verification and gap elimination, support ofvarious dress systems, constant surface speed, skip dress and wheeloffsets. Various grind types are supported, such as plunge, pickfeed, oscillation, contour, traditional vector and vectoroscillation. All cycles are supported from all four-grinddirections. Enhanced programming features that have been addedinclude the ability to easily skip, insert or delete an operationsequence for ease of regrind, optional remote diagnostics, background edit, CAD like dress programmer and on-line help.
"With Open Vision HMI Grind, the creation, editing and viewingof programs has never been easier. The conversational programmerallows for programming of multi-surfaces, and in doing so, one canemploy multiple dressing devices and multi-wheel and/or wheelheadsin the same program. Furthermore the conversational programmersupports 16 different ancillary devices for controlling such thingsas auto loading systems, swing down dressers, probing and variousgage interfaces and tool and quill auto-changers. An off-lineprogrammer is provided with each system so programming can be doneeither at the machine or remotely.
"Taking full advantage of the GE Fanuc control system, thesoftware also includes the ability to program by part reference. This is accomplished by employing a separate coordinate system forthe work piece. The X-axis zero point can be placed either at thework piece centerline or at a reference surface on the work piece. The 'Capture Positions' feature enables the operator to quicklyresolve work piece offsets and dresser alignment for easyset-up."
According to the company, there are three ways to implement OpenVision HMI Grind to increase productivity of your grinder:
Ask your OEM if Open Vision HMI Grind is available on your newgrinder purchase.
CNC Engineering can integrate the Open Vision HMI Grind interfaceto your new or existing GE Fanuc controlled grinder.
CNC Engineering can retrofit your existing CNC controlled grinderwith a new GE Fanuc control system running Open Vision HMI Grind.
