Speciality chemicals maker Albemarle Corporation has developed anew polymer chain extender to help control the cure rates ofpolyurea and hybrid spray coating systems used in truck bed liners,construction coatings and other systems used in adhesives, sealantsand elastomeric materials. ETHACURE 420 chain extender is a newaromatic-diamine curing agent designed to provide applicators withexcellent cure-rate adjustment. The new product expands andcomplements Albemarles existing portfolio of value-adding polymeradditives, such as the aromatic diamines, ETHACURE 100 and ETHACURE100 LC curatives. Key benefits of ETHACURE 420 for formulators andapplicators include: improved pot life (working life) offormulations for applications requiring longer set times; easier,more consistent application of both thicker spray coatings and softelastomers used in caulks and sealants; higher flow rates of sprayformulations, leading to improved coating adherence andrough-surface penetration, where thicker coatings might tend tobridge; smoother and more attractive finished coatings, withoutundesirable orange peel effect; and excellent tensile strength,improving formulations for severe-service applications such ascontainment barriers, floors, parking garages and bridges.
