BASF targets turbine blades in new deal

Chemical firm BASF has joined forces with Leuna-Harze to offer new epoxy resin systems aimed at wind turbine blade production.
Leuna Harze, a leading manufacturer of epoxy resins in Europe, will supply BASF with resin raw materials.
BASF, meanwhile, will offer customised epoxy resin systems for fibre-reinforced composites aimed specifically at the production of rotor blades for wind turbines.
Dr Gregor Saun, who heads the epoxy system development and marketing unit, recently set up by BASF’s operating division intermediates, said: “Our cooperation with Leuna-Harze is a major element in our strategy to safeguard the long-term supply of raw materials for our customers.”
Klaus Paur, principal shareholder of Leuna-Harze, said the new plants represented an investment of (euro)25m.
“The cooperation with BASF that we have developed for years gives us another opportunity to establish our products in a fast-expanding business segment.”
