Malladi drugs and pharmaceuticals to set up global hub in Malaysia

Malladi Drugs handed over a business plan to MalaysianBiotechnology Corp (Biotech), on the first day of the BioMalaysia2008 conference and exhibition in the presence of the MalaysianPrime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
According to the plan, the firm aims to expand into other areas ofservice offering as a contract research organisation in Malaysiaincluding oncology and steroids, and beta-lactums.
Prashant Malladi, Managing Director, Malladi Drugs andPharmaceuticals Ltd said, "We have been studying this model forsome time and are convinced that Malladi is positioned perfectly todeliver this."
BioTech's chief executive officer, Datuk Iskandar Mizal Mahmood,said the firm has yet to pick a site, but would be encouraged tolocate at one of the economic corridors in the country, in linewith Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's call forthose areas to be driven by biotechnology.
"The investment entails the development of the entire value chainwithin the contract manufacturing facility starting from the APIformulation," he said.
Biotech, one of the main organisers of BioMalaysia, is the leadagency for the biotechnology industry in Malaysia.
Malladi Drugs and Pharmaceutical Ltd is an API manufacturer basedout of Chennai, India. The Company has a strong footing andexperience in Research and Development and manufacturing of APIwith a deep rooted experience of more than 50 years. The companyintends to expand its service base in the value chain providing theconcept of "One-Stop-Shop".
As part of the expansion plan, Malladi intends to establish aMalaysian entity. This entity will serve as a foot-print for thecompany in the next few stages of the value chain like FormulationR andD, Manufacturing, and Formulation Clinicals. The company alsointends to extend its expertise in Oncology and Steroids and inBeta-lactums.
