Export of coco products up 32.7% in Feb.

The Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) reported a 32.7-percentyear-on-year rise in the export of coconut products in February,translating to 121,863 metric tons in copra terms, valued at $104million.
In the same month last year, coco exports reached 91,800 metrictons worth $49.35 million.
The PCA said the doubling of gross export receipts was mainly dueto substantial increases in volumes traded and sharply improvedborder prices.
The January-February total of coconut exports reached 334,241metric tons in copra termsdouble the 167,076 recorded in the sameperiod last year.
Coconut oil exports for the two months reached 181,672 metric tons(from 72,695 in the same period last year); copra meal, 97,267metric tons (from 35,989); desiccated coconut, 17,722 metric tons(from 20,789); oleochemicals, 18,474 metric tons as copra (from19,546); coco shell charcoal, 2,540 metric tons (from 2,225);activated carbon, 5,763 metric tons (from 3,302); glycerin, 2,998metric tons (from 461); fresh coconut, 139 metric tons (from 127);and others, 4,544 metric tons (from 3,494).
In February, exports of coconut oil rose 36.4 percent to 59,906metric tons from 43,918 a year earlier. These consisted of 48,752metric tons of crude coconut oil, 10,370 metric tons of cochin(semi-refined or refined, bleached) oil, and 784 metric tons of RBDoil.
The PCA said Europe remained as the top destination, taking in29,940 metric tons, followed by the United States at 24,268 metrictons and Japan at 4,577 metric tons.
Exports of copra meal surged 308.2 percent to 61,236 metric tonsfrom a year-earlier level of 15,000. They went to South Korea(46,534 metric tons, or 76.0 percent), Vietnam (11,800 metrictons), Taiwan (2,552 metric tons) and New Zealand (350 metrictons). With editing by INQUIRER.net
