No big change in commodities price structure

KARACHI (June 23 2008): Some essential items suffered losses on thecommodities wholesale markets while tea moved in different wayduring the week ended on Saturday, June21, 2008. The traders were,however, generally silent over movement in commodities in local aswell as international markets demanding time to reach thebackground - sugar and tea were suggested when the answer camebluntly.
On Monday, which generally is seen as active day, very few visitorswere seen despite rice depicted weakness. Irri 9 low type turnedweaker by Rs100 to Rs5,400 while the other type shed Rs300 toRs4,700, wheat Sindh with old Bandana and new type roe quoted atRs2,200 while the other type was quoted at Rs2,215. A solo deal incotton cakes with bag from Sindh new rose by Rs15 to Rs900 whilefiner quality was quoted at Rs910.
Tea on JB was firmer. Kenyan (per kg) D-1 A grade rose by Rs15 toRs265, B grade rose by Rs25 to Rs240, plus C grade rose by Rs20 toRs215 while C grade rose by Rs22 to Rs210. Dust A grade rose byRs25 to Rs200, Plus C grade was quoted at Rs195. Tea fromBangladesh Garden Pack (original rose by Rs37 to Rs165, Gulab endedhigher by Rs20 to Rs165, and Garden Pak BOP rose by Rs25 to Rs160.
On Tuesday, locally some upward trend was marked, while worldwidenothing very shocking reported. In Karachi commodity markets, makaishowed retreat which gave in Rs75 to Rs2,000 and guwar low typewent down with wide margin by Rs100 to Rs1,800, while better typestayed put.
Wheat with bardana old and new rose by Rs20 to Rs2,220 while theother variety was quoted at Rs 2,235. Irri white shed Rs200 toRs1,900 while other type was quoted at Rs2,000. Castorseed Lasbelarose by Rs25 to Rs1,150 and Sindh castorseed rose by the samemargin to Rs1,025 and the other quality was quoted at Rs1,050.
On Wednesday, Irri Sindh sustained loss of Rs100 to Rs3,700. Wheatold and new with bardana rose by Rs30 to Rs2,250 while the othertype was quoted at Rs2,265. Cottoncakes with bag from Sindh lowtype shed Rs5 to Rs900 while the other type showed no change. Sugarunder somewhat world trend turned lower losing Rs50 to Rs2,600while the other type stayed put.
Elsewhere, milk powder skimmed (per bag of 25 kgs) Skim Pak endedhigher by Rs1,000 to Rs5,500. Golden burger ended down by Rs300 toRs9,100 and Holland rose by Rs1,000 to Rs9,000. Full cream CDLquoted at Rs4,300 and Bright star quoted at Rs6,000. Vegetable EuroGold ended higher by Rs150 to Rs7,400.
On Thursday, almost all commodities held the overnight levels. Afew changes were seen on the cereal side. Urad Burma better typegained Rs50 to Rs1,850 while the low quality did not show anychange. Wheat old and new Bardan shed Rs10 to Rs2,240-2,255.
Firmness prevailed on the grain market on Friday as most of thecommodity items maintained the overnight levels.
TRADING ON CHEMICALS MOVED BOTH WAYS ON JODIA BAZAAR ON FRIDAY. THECHANGES WERE:
CHEMICALS (per kg): Caustic soda flakes Saudi ended down by Rs7 to Rs50, sodiumsulphate finished lower by Re1 to Rs15, NJ Taiwan edged down by Rs5to Rs154, formic acid closed higher by Re1 to Rs90, formic acidGermany moved upward by Rs9 to Rs99, oxalic acid China ended higherby Rs4 to Rs80 and citric acid China went upward by Rs17 to Rs96.
PETROLEUM JELLY: Sulphonic acid soft closed up by Rs20.40 to Rs158.40, sulphonicacid Hard (DDBSA) moved upward by Rs20 to Rs155, PVA Japan closedlower by Rs3 to Rs250, Sitara caustic soda flakes closed down byRs8 to Rs48 and caustic Taiwan edged lower by Rs6 to Rs50.
HYDROSULPHITE: China 88 percent was quoted at Rs121 and Germany moved lower byRs2 to Rs141.
ACETIC ACID: Taiwan ended lower by 20 paisa at Rs 90.
HYDROGEN PEROXIDEL (35 percent): Taiwan finished up by Rs2 to Rs59, Korea ended higher by Rs1.40 toRs59.40.
Lean business was seen on Saturday. Most of the buyers kept on thesidelines in the absence of motivating factor. On the rice sector,Irri-6 Sindh lost Rs50 to Rs3,650. Sugar better type followed suitand lost Rs30 to Rs2,750 while low quality did not move any side.On the cereals side, wheat old and new gained Rs10 to Rs2,250 andRs2,265.
