Just before 6:30 p.m. Monday, two tractor-trailer rigs collided onthe Route 30 bridge across the Susquehanna River, forcing closureof the highway for about four hours.

About 100 gallons of fuel spilled out of one truck with about 50gallons dropping into the river, Lancaster County Controlreported.

Both trucks were traveling east in the outside lane and approachinga construction zone. Traffic forced the first truck to halt, butthe second truck was unable to stop in time, West HempfieldTownship police said.

The second truck's right front end struck the back of the firsttruck and then veered into the center guardrail, police said.

The driver of the second truck was taken to Lancaster GeneralHospital for treatment of minor injuries. The other trucker wasnot hurt. Their identities were not available.

The crash shut down Route 30 in both directions between theColumbia and Wrightsville exits. Traffic was detoured throughColumbia, resulting in mile-long backups in each direction on Route30.

Route 30 re-opened at about 10:30 p.m. Monday, County Control said.
