Cardiff 23-19 Cross Keys
CARDIFF overcame Cross Keys at the Arms Park to climb to second inthe Premiership table, but they were made to work hard by theirspirited visitors.
Keys outscored the Blue and Blacks by three tries to two and ittook the boot of outside-half Craig Evans to seal the points with apair of second-half penalties.
It was the visitors who opened the scoring on three minutes whenwing Owen Williams touched down.
But the seven-point lead, courtesy of Leon Andrews’conversion, didn’t last long.
Two minutes later Cardiff wing Nathan Rees chipped and gathered tocross with Evans’ extras levelling matters.
The scoring dried up until Evans added a penalty on 33 minutes andthat stirred the visitors into action with their reward coming inthe shape of a Lloyd Burns try from close range on the brink ofhalf-time.
And when wideman Gareth Williams crossed early in the second halfto make it 19-10, it seemed an upset may be on the cards.
But a try from centre Gareth Chapman on 53 minutes got the Blue andBlacks back into the match and then Evans took centre stage,converting and then adding a brace of penalties to clinch thevictory for the home side.
