India\'s Central Pollution Control Board Banning Cyanide in Zinc

The Indian Central Pollution Control Board recently announced thatan Expert Committee formed by the board has deliberated that usageof cyanide should be banned in zinc and copper plating with a timeframe of 3 years throughout the Country as non-cyanide copper andzinc plating electrolyte solutions/baths are available and is beingpracticed by most of the electroplaters with same quality of theplating as produced by the cyanide based copper and zinc plating.
The Board asks that businesses involved in this industry asproducers or suppliers are requested to kindly take note andfurnish their comments on the decision on or before 19th April,2008 to this Association or directly to the Central PollutionControl Board, Ministry of Environment & Forests, Govt. of Indiadirectly under intimation to this office as the same will be placedbefore the Expert Committee which is proposed to be held inApril-May 2008.
