Strattera Approved for ADHD Maintenance Treatment

The FDA has approved Eli Lilly’s Strattera for maintenancetreatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) inchildren and adolescents.
Strattera (atomoxetine HCl), a selective norepinephrine reuptakeinhibitor, is the first nonstimulant the FDA has approved to treatADHD in children, adolescents and adults, Eli Lilly said.
The approval is based on an 18-month international, multi-siteclinical trial that assessed the drug’s safety and efficacyin preventing relapses of ADHD.
Roughly 600 children and adolescents age 6–15 with ADHD wereenrolled, and the drug was found to be superior to placebo inmaintaining continuous efficacy in patients, as measured by theADHD rating scale, the company said.
