Wrexham based Silvergate Plastics, the colour masterbatch arm ofBritish Vita, has announced the launch of a new and, claims thecompany, the first truly effective colour masterbatch madespecifically for PVC. The key to the products effectiveness is thecarrier polymer, which is composed entirely of PVC. This eliminatesthe incidence of contamination, which has occurred to varyingextents when non-PVC carriers were used. They were used for thedocumented difficulties of working, particularly pelletising PVC.Because of its polymer merit characteristics, PVC requires eitheran extremely large and powerful dry face or underwater pelletiser.Silvergate expects substantial interest from the market for its PVCspecific masterbatch and in order to cope with that, together witha buoyant trading environment, a new Comac Twin Screw line has beeninstalled and this should increase capacity by up to 20%.
