Man caught crossing with undeclared money
HIDALGO - A 20-year-old Mexican citizen was caught trying to crossinto Mexico with $70,000 cash.
It happened at the Reynosa-Hidalgo International Bridge. Customsagents say the man was carrying a box of detergent and lookedsuspicious. An agent approached him and found the thousands in cashinside the box.
We're told the money was bundled up in five packages. Federalagents are still trying to find out what the man was doing with thecash. There's no word if the 20-year-old is currently in custody.
Authorities say carrying over $10,000 in currency to and from theU.S. isn't illegal. But it's necessary to file the proper paperworkto declare the money.
