The New York State Department of Transportation's (NYSDOT) SmartPlanning Program has developed a number of tools to help illustratethe link between transportation and land use planning and toeducate communities about Smart Growth.

The following products are available: Introductory Module: Smart Growth & Transportation : This PowerPoint presentation is designed to provide municipalplanning and supervisory board members, municipal officials and thepublic with a general understanding of Smart Growth and itsrelationship to transportation. Smart Growth Checklist for Municipal Land Use Planning : This is an easy-to-use tool for municipal planning staff andplanning board members to determine how well the planning anddecisions in your community follow the principles of Smart Growth. Smart Growth Checklist for Proposed Development Projects : This is an easy-to-use tool for the community member to determinewhether a proposed project is likely to contribute to the overallwell-being of your community.
