Imerys boosts kaolin and ground calcium carbonate prices

PARIS (Thomson Financial) - Industrial minerals company Imerys saidit is boosting its kaolin and calcium carbonate prices immediatelyto keep its paper pigments business sustainable, in response tosurging costs.

Prices of kaolin made in the United States, Brazil, Australia andthe United Kingdom will rise between 10 percent and 15 percent, andan energy and transport surcharge will be imposed for kaolinproducts around the world.

Imerys' North American paper pigments unit is also raising groundcalcium carbonate prices by 10 percent.

The company said the price increases and surcharges 'are necessaryto achieve a sustainable pigment business' as unprecedented costincreases in logistics, chemicals, mining, fuel and poweroutstripped the ability of internal programmes to mitigate theirimpact.
