Commodities prices fluctuate within a limited range

KARACHI (June 16 2008): The prices were firmer on the commoditieswholesale markets, while rice lost sharply during the week ended onJune 14, 2008, where variations were comparatively more thenprevious weeks. Changes were marked in milk powder, til, rice,barley, cottonseed cakes etc.

On the opening day sharp rise in rice prices were marked, sendbuyers to low quantity placed in shops for disposal. Irri 9 Sindhinferior type conceded Rs 300 to Rs 5500, while better typeretreated by Rs 200 to Rs 5800. Basmati D 98 Shahadkot and BasmatiBagar Jee turned lower by Rs 200 to Rs 7100, while the otherquality was quoted at Rs 7200. Basmati 386 shed Rs 300 to Rs 7000,while the better type was quoted at Rs 7100. Sela Basmati low typeshed Rs 300 to Rs 5800 while the fine type was quoted lower by Rs200 to RS 8600. Barley Sindh and Mardan both were down by Rs 50 toRs 2150, while the other type was quoted at Rs 2250.

Elsewhere, milk powder skimmed (per bag of 25 Kgs) Golden Burgerwas down Rs 400 to Rs 9400. Vegetable corolac rose by Rs 500 to Rs8500, Haleeb veg was quoted at Rs 6450 and Melco veg rose by Rs 400to Rs 6700. Sweetened (per carton) lucky noy rose by Rs 100 to Rs2300.

On Tuesday variations were mostly in seeds, cottonseed oilcakeswith bag rose by Rs 5 to Rs 780 while the better type was quoted atRs 805. Cottonseed oilcakes with bag new low type rose by Rs 5 toRs 805, while better type was higher by Rs 15 to Rs 810, Cottonseedoilcakes with bag from Sindh old up by Rs 10 to Rs 785, while thebetter type shed Rs 35 to Rs 790, cotton cakes new with bag lowtype rose by Rs 10 to Rs 885, while better type rose by Rs 5 to Rs905. Til low type rose by Rs 100 to Rs 4400, while better type wasdown by Rs 200 to Rs 4500. Sugar inferior type was quoted at Rs2650 while the other type rose by Rs 100 to Rs 2800.

On Wednesday market under budget hovering showed fewer fluctuationsparticularly have been quite favourable. That fact was seen in dalmasoor, which conceded Rs 100 to RS 8500.

Tea in Jodia Bazar registered rising trend. The reason was notfurnished. However, Kenya tea (per kg) PF-1 A grade was up by Rs 40to RS 250, B grade up by Rs 40 to Rs 240, plus C grade rose by Rs30 to Rs 210. BF-1 A grade rose by Rs 25 to Rs 255, B grade up byRs 25 to Rs 235, Plus C grade up Rs 30 to Rs 235, and C gradegained Rs 20 to Rs 220.

On Thursday no major changes were seen on the grain market, asmarket players were busy in analysing the budget speech. On therice sector, Irri-6 Sindh lost Rs 100 at Rs 3600. Almost all itemsmaintained the overnight levels on the seed side, sugar better typeshed Rs 20 to Rs 2700, while the low type held the overnight levelat Rs 2650.

The trading on Kirana items showed mixed trend on Jodia Bazaar hereon Thursday. The variations were: KIRANA ITEMS (per 40 kg): white pepper finished down by Rs 800 to Rs 16,000, black pepperSingapore edged up by Rs 100 to Rs 10,000, black pepper Brazilclosed lower by Rs 500 to Rs 10,300. Nuteg moved downward by Rs 400to Rs 11,400, and cloves finished lower by Rs 700 to Rs 14,500.

Firmness prevailed on the grain market on Friday as most of thecommodities maintained their overnight levels, as market playerswere busy in Juma prayers. The trading on raw rubber moved both ways on Jodia Bazaar here onFriday.

The variations were: RAW RUBBER CEYLON (per lb): Merryrub (Equivalent to RSS3) was quoted at Rs 110, RSSV wasquoted at Rs 112, Merryrub (Equivalent to Crape) finished down byRs 3 to Rs 125 and Pale Crape TPC3 moved lower by Rs 3 to Rs 127.LATEX: Merrytax (28 kg) moved up by Rs 5 to Rs 735, Semnan Texclosed upward by Rs 5 to Rs 735 and Thai (GT) went higher by Rs 5to Rs 735.

On Saturday trading was thin as many wholesale dealers were on thesidelines due to declining demand. On the cereals side, Urad Burmalost Rs 50 to Rs 1600-1800, Barley Sindh and Mardan, however,gained the same amount at Rs 2200-2250. On the rice sector, Irri-6Sindh was sharply higher by Rs 200 to Rs 3800.

The trading on plastic moulding compounds closed mixed on JodiaBazaar. The variations were: PLASTIC MOULDING COMPOUNDS (per lb): HDPE (FILM): Saudia 952 moved higher by Rs 5.75 to Rs 76.50, Mobilfinished up by Rs 5.75 to Rs 76.50 and TR144 moved upward by Rs5.75 to Rs 76.50.

HDPE (INJECTION): Sabic 200056 closed up by Rs 5 to Rs 77, Mobil 016 moved higher byRs 5 to Rs 77 and Iran moved upward by Rs 4 to Rs 76.

HDPE (BLOW): Kuwait closed higher by Rs 5 to Rs 76 and Marlex moved up by Rs 5to Rs 76.

LDPE: 374 closed higher by Rs 1.50 to Rs 81.50 and MG 20 edged down byRs 6 to Rs 90.

LLDPE: W118 closed up by Rs 3 to Rs 81 and 7087 moved higher by Rs 3 toRs 81.

POLYPROPYLENE (FILM): Thai finished higher by Rs 6 to Rs 81, Kuwait moved upward by Rs 6to Rs 81 and India went higher by Rs 6 to Rs 81.

POLYPROPYLENE (TAPE GRADE): India moved up by Rs 7 to Rs 79.50, Kuwait closed higher by Rs 7to Rs 79.50 and Saudia went up by Rs 7 to Rs 79.50.

POLYPROPYLENE (INJECTION GRADE): Saudia edged higher by Rs 7 to Rs 79.25, India went up by Rs 7 toRs 79.25 and Kuwait finished upward by Rs 7 to Rs 79.25.

POLYSTYRENE: Pakistani was quoted at Rs 3,962.

COPOLY: Block closed higher by Rs 7 to Rs 80 and Randon finished up by Re1 to Rs 85.

HIGH IMPACT (per bag): Pakistani was quoted at Rs 4,265 and BASF closed higher by Rs 100to Rs 4,300.

ABS (per bag): Polylac 707 ended higher by Rs 200 to Rs 4,800 andIran went up by Rs 300 to Rs 4,800.
