The Ghana International Furniture and WoodworkingIndustry Exhibition (GIFEX) would have its 12th exhibition at theInternational Trade Fair Centre from October 17 to 26, 2008.
The exhibition is aimed at exposing the Woodworking Industry tomodern machinery and production technology in order to increaseefficiency and competitiveness, and also bring together importersof Wood products, Loggers, Millers, Wood processing Companies,Ministries, Departments, Agencies, Banks, Bamboo and Rattanfurniture producers among others.
The theme for the exhibition is "100 years of Forestry in Ghana-Networking Partnerships for Sustainable Development."
Briefing the media on the upcoming exhibition, the ExecutiveDirector of the Timber Industry Development Unit of the ForestryCommission, Mr. Alhassan Atta, on behalf of the Chief Executive ofthe Forestry Commission, Prof. Nii Ashie Kotei, said GIFEX wasfirst held in Ghana in 1985, and subsequently for every year untilit was temporarily suspended due to some organizational challengesand other problems.
He noted that this year, the Forestry Commission decided toreactivate the exhibition inline with the forestry sector'sobjective of promoting viable and efficient forest industry whichutilizes relatively less resources to achieve higher returnsthrough large scale production and sales of value-added woodproducts.
He pointed out that the exhibition was to broaden the raw materialbase of the wood Industry, the processing of the lesser usedspecies and also expand market as well as enhance the foreignexchange earning capacity through value addition.
Mr. Atta further stated that the fair would provide opportunitiesfor networking and promote lineages between the companies and withinstitutions responsible for the sustainability of the forestryIndustry.
He added that the fair was aimed at a greater exposure to local andinternational clients, trade investors, match making opportunitiesand increase sales and orders for goods and services.
