The aluminium consumption has been weak in developed countries, butin China is relatively in a growth period, which will push theglobal aluminium consumption to reach 40.57 million tons in 2008,an increase of 6.88 per cent year-on-year. Electrolytic aluminiumproduction in China due to snowstorms, earthquakes and theelectricity supply in summer time, has restrained recently, but theglobal aluminium output will reach about 40.92 million tons, anincrease of 6.67 per cent year-on-year in 2008. Electrolyticaluminium in the global market will remain in surplus. The time forChina to became a net importer of aluminium will be postponed to2009.

Chinalco, the largest Chinese alumina, electrolytic aluminium andaluminium fabrication manufacturer, made 3.45 million tons ofalumina between Jan -Apr 2008, the average sales price was 3,364yuan / ton, 950,000 tons of aluminium, the average sales price was19,148 yuan / ton. In 2008 Chinalco is expected to produce alumina10.2 million tons, up 6.5 per cent year-on-year, electrolyticaluminium 3.6 million tons, and an increase of 28.6 per centyear-on-year.
