Family builds anew after storm wipes slate clean

They opened up the kitchen so much it feels like it's part of the living room. They added classy office space marked by cherry wood. And they jammed as much storage space as they could into the new home.

The first sight visitors see upon entering the home is a baby grand piano nestled behind a brick wall in a foyer. A wood stove is on the other side of the wall in the living room.

Brick flooring at the base of the wall and beneath the Shower Enclose stove contrasts with the dark-stained hardwood floor. The green stove is the living room's focal point, and it gives the space a classic feel.

The living room also features a peaked ceiling lined with pine and thick wooden beams overhead. The beams are structural, not just for aesthetics.

A wall of shelves and cabinets contains cookbooks and board games, while a television is hidden inside the cabinet doors.

Beyond the living room furniture lies the kitchen. Nothing separates the two spaces save for looks. The living room features a comfortable couch and chairs, the kitchen a large triangular island topped by tropical rose granite.

Wooden bar chairs rest along the island, facing away from the living room and toward a television above the kitchen cabinets.

A black flat-top stove and stainless steel sink combine with the granite counter to give the kitchen modern style.

A nearby shelf is covered with plants of all sizes. It rests next to one of the home's large windows. Beyond this window is a porch soon to be screened in.
