Van Blerk to defend title at Totalsports Ladies Race in Johannesburg

Ivette van Blerk (21) of Ruimsig will be back in action onSaturday, 09 August 2008 when she defends her title at the 2008Totalsports Ladies Race presented by Asics at Roosevelt High School(Emmerentia).
The first Totalsports Ladies Race took place in Cape Town in 2003.Over the years this event, the largest womens day celebration inthe country, has been so well received that in 2007 eventorganisers decided to host an additional race in Johannesburg onthe same day. Van Blerk was the fastest athlete at last yearsinaugural Gauteng event, completing the 10km race in 37mins34secsand becoming the first official winner of the JohannesburgTotalsports Ladies Race.
According to Van Blerk, she really enjoyed competing in the raceand cant wait to better her time this year. "The TotalsportsLadies Race is a fun race to compete in and I really enjoy the factthat there are few hills on route. The atmosphere is fantastic andit really is a fun race. Ive been training really hard, twice aday every day of the week. I am really looking forward to toughcompetition on the day and plan on giving my best no matter what. Ithink this years event is going to be even bigger and better thanlast year," says Van Blerk, who will face strong competition fromthe Molefe twins, Keneilwe and Kefilwe.
The 2008 Totalsports Ladies Race presented by Asics will assist theFadimehang Mental Care Centre by donating all proceeds raised onthe day. The race will start at 08h00 at Roosevelt High School inEmmerentia and athletes can choose between a 5km fun walk or 10kmrun. Early entrants will receive an official race T-shirt andmedals will be awarded to all finishers. All entrants stand achance to win a magnificent Nissan Micra and Vuka Scuta. Racenumbers will be entered into the two lucky draws that will takeplace at the end of the race, but athletes whose race numbers aredrawn have to be present to claim their prizes. Former Idols starand talented singer/songwriter Gift Gwe will serenade the thousandsof ladies participating on the day. Husbands, friends and familyare encouraged to join in the fun and show support on the day forboth the ladies participating as well as the Fadimehang Mental CareCentre.
