Saint Patrick's Day, the day for leprechauns, shamrocks, greenthings, and of course Blarney Stones. The Blarney Stone, a stonefound in Ireland, is said to give you the gift of gab, oreloquence, if you kiss it. Why not let your kids make their veryown stone to celebrate Saint Patrick's Day with.
MATERIALS NEEDED
Smooth Stones
Old Newspapers
Green Paint (Or whatever color you prefer.)
Paint Brushes (Or other painting tools, such as sponges.)
Glue
Glitter
Stickers
Ribbons
Buttons
and anything else that you may want to use for your Blarney Stone.(There are many things that you can find just lying around yourhouse to decorate your Blarney Stone with. Just let your or yourchild's imagination run wild when selecting things.)
DIRECTIONS
1. Lay down old newspapers or old sheets over the area where youwill be working. Another tip would be to have your children wearold clothes or a smock to protect them from getting paint all overthem.
2. Once everything is covered completely let your child paint thestones with a paintbrush. Let your child be creative with thestone. If they don't want to paint it green, have them chose acolor that they want. You can even let them paint the stone severalcolors.
3. Now comes the part all kids hate. Waiting for the paint to dry.Don't fret though, you can fill up this time. Have your child helpyou gather the rest of your materials. Let them pick which thingsthey would like to use to decorate the stone with.
4. After the paint has dried you can then let your child usewhatever materials you have gathered to decorate the stone with. You can use stickers, glitter, ribbons, Buttons, or anything elseyou might have. You could even give your Blarney Stone a littlepersonality by gluing on eyes and a face. Whatever you do rememberto be creative and have fun!
Another fun idea is let your child think up a gift that their stonewill give if kissed. Maybe their stone will give out the gift oflaughter, or the gift of friends. Let them think up a gift and thenlet family members kiss the stone.
Have a Happy Saint Patrick's Day!
