Comcast's Fandango buys Movies.com from Disney for undisclosed amount

PHILADELPHIA : Movie ticketing and entertainment site Fandango Inc. said Mondayit has acquired Movies.com from Walt Disney Co. for an undisclosedamount.
Los Angeles-based Fandango, which is owned by Comcast Corp., sellstickets for 1,300 theaters in the U.S. It said it will now handlethe movie ticketing functions for Movies.com, which is mainly anentertainment Web site.
Movies.com, which previously partnered with MovieTickets.com forticketing, was owned by the Walt Disney Internet Group.Philadelphia-based cable TV system owner Comcast said the purchaseprice was minimal.
Fandango said it had 6.3 million monthly unique visitors to its Website in May compared with 1.9 million for Movies.com. Both siteswere launched in 2000.
Comcast, the No. 1 U.S. cable operator, bought Fandango for anundisclosed price in April 2007. Months later, the company unveileda TV and movie Web site called Fancast.com.
