At first glance, the Lexmark Z2420 Wireless Inkjet Printer looks like the printing equivalent of the$1 menu at McDonald’s: enough features to fill your plate ata low MSRP of $79.99. This new printer offers built-in wirelessnetwork connectivity and prints at a respectable 18 ppm in colorand 25 in black. It works with both Mac and Windows, weighs a shadeunder 6 lbs., and offers software to help you rotate, crop, resizeand touch up your photos. With all the basic features you look forin a home office printer, the Lexmark Z2420 Wireless Inkjet Printer looks like a good deal, right? Accordingto the experts, it all depends on what you need and how you plan touse it.
Justin Yu of CNET gives the Lexmark Z2420 a solid 6.3/10 for its fast text printing speed and wireless connectivity. Butoverall, Yu concludes that “you can pay the competition alittle more and get substantially better photo and graphicsquality.” And even though text comes out fast, the quality is“grainy” and “jagged… with unsightlypatches where the nozzle didn’t expel an even amount ofink.” So if you’re simply looking for quick, cheap textprintouts for your own personal purposes, the Lexmark Z2420 should do just enough. Otherwise, Yu basically says print at yourown risk.
Melissa Riofrio of PC World gives the Lexmark Z2420 Wireless Inkjet Printer a very solid 74/100 for its easy wireless setup and simple design. She also finds thatprint quality improves when you use Lexmark photo paper. Like Yu, Riofrio finds color image printing slow andnotes that the Lexmark Z2420 uses “Pricey inks” which may eventually offset thelower MSRP for the printer itself. In the end assessment, the Lexmark Z2420 does just fine as a “cheap secondary model for occasionalphoto printing… and its wireless feature gives it anadvantage over other low-cost printers.”
