The Post Office has installed new cash machines that dispenseforeign currency in a number of its branches, it was announced.
The ATMs, which have been supplied by Bank of Ireland, enableconsumers to use their debit cards to get US dollars or euros.
The foreign currency is commission-free and people will not becharged for the withdrawal. They will also get the same exchangerates as they would if they changed money over the counter.
The machines have been installed at 13 post office branches acrossthe country as part of the trial.
Figures from payments body APACS show that Britons used debit cardsto withdraw £7.1 billion from overseas cash machines last year,often incurring charges.
Helen Warburton, head of Post Office travel services, said:"Holidaymakers can make real savings by avoiding all the chargesand commission associated with using overseas cash machines abroad.
"Our new ATM machines are a hassle-free, convenient and economicway for holidaymakers to get their holiday money from an ATM inthis country at the push of a button."
The ATMs have been installed in branches in Ashford, Fareham,Basingstoke, Harlow, Birmingham, Crawley, Dartford, Harrogate,Bristol, Solihull, Stockport and the City of London and TrafalgarSquare.
Halifax became the first high street bank to offer foreign currencyATMs in September last year.
It now has the machines in 10 of its branches as part of a trial,the initial results of which it said had been "encouraging".
