Wizard of Oz Ruby Slipper Collection to be showcased at MFBW September 06, 2008 (USA)
"If Dorothy were living in the 21st century, what would she wear?"was the question answered by The Wizard of Oz Ruby SlipperCollection, a creative re-interpretation of one of film's mosticonic and revered symbols which has captured the hearts andimaginations of people the world over.
In celebration of the 70th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz in 2009,Warner Bros. Consumer Products in partnership with CRYSTALLIZEDSwarovski Elements, invited the world's top shoe designers toreinterpret Dorothy's iconic Ruby Slippers for modern times.
To kick-off Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, The Wizard of Oz RubySlipper Collection was officially unveiled to celebrities and"fashionistas" on September 4 at an in-store gala event at SaksFifth Avenue in New York City in their famous 10022-SHOE thedesigner shoe salon that's so big it has its own zip code.
The red carpet event was attended by such notables as LindsayPrice, Molly Sims, Lorraine Bracco, Nina Garcia, Stuart Weitzman,Betsey Johnson, Nigel Barker, Gloria Reuben, Bobby Flay, StephanieMarch, Perrey Reeves, Pamela Roland and Wendy Williams.
Designers, including A. Testoni, Abaete, Alberta Ferretti BetseyJohnson, Botkier, Diane von Furstenberg, Giuseppe Zanotti, JimmyChoo, L.A.M.B. by Gwen Stefani, Lisa Pliner, Manolo Blahnik,Moschino, Oscar de la Renta, Roger Vivier, Sergio Rossi, StuartWeitzman, Tibi, and Tuleh, were granted creative license and accessto unlimited CRYSTALLIZED - Swarovski Elements to re-imagineDorothy's design with their own modern vision of the sparkling RubySlipper.
"The Wizard of Oz is a timeless classic which has touched people ofall ages and will never go out of style," said Brad Globe,President, Warner Bros. Consumer Products.
"What better way to celebrate the film's 70th Anniversary thanappearing front and center at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, sharingwith fans these beautiful new designs of Dorothy's Ruby Slippers."
Beginning, September 5, the Collection will also be showcased at anincredible installation surrounding the famed fountain area atMercedes-Benz Fashion Week's Bryant Park tents.
After Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week wraps, the Ruby Slipper Collectionwill make an appearance at Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDSFoundation's Kids for Kids Family Carnival in New York City's ParkAvenue Armory Building on September 20.
Additional stops for the Collection include Miami Art Week tocoincide with Art Basel Miami Beach December 4-8th. Multiple publicviewings are planned throughout 2009.
Following a year of being highlighted at special events around thecountry, the complete and original The Wizard of Oz Ruby SlipperCollection will be auctioned at a gala event in fall 2009 with theproceeds benefiting the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation.
Guests attending the event received a special collection of TheWizard of Oz PhotoStamps, developed by Warner Bros. ConsumerProducts in collaboration with Stamps.com.
The Wizard of Oz PhotoStamps sheets will sell for $19.99 atPhotoStamps.com, and all net proceeds will benefit the ElizabethGlaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation.
