SPRING HILL
Arc Nature Coast looking for sponsors
Thursday is the sponsorship deadline for the Arc Nature Coast's15th annual Bowl-A-Thon, which will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Aug. 9 atSpring Hill Lanes, 3447 Commercial Way.
A $125 team sponsorship provides Bowl-A-Thon T-shirts for a team offive bowlers (all sponsor names will be printed on the back of aminimum of 200 shirts), two games of bowling and shoe rental.
A $125 lane sponsorship provides a large banner on a lane promotingthe company or organization, the company's name on the eventT-shirt and recognition in the Arc's quarterly newsletter.
Sponsors can assemble their own bowling teams, or Arc will providea team or individual bowlers for teams with fewer than fivemembers. Individual bowlers are welcome. Bowlers are expected toraise at least $25 in pledges.

Programs offered to get you in shape
Hernando County Recreation is offering the following programs:
• 12-Week Body Challenge, starting Aug. 11. The program willbe at 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays at the Community Activity Center, 205 EFort Dade Ave., Brooksville; at 6 a.m. Thursdays at Anderson SnowPark on Anderson Snow Road in Spring Hill; and 8 a.m. Saturdays atDelta Woods Park on Deltona Boulevard, Spring Hill.
The course is led by master personal trainer and weight managementconsultant Kim Garcia. The cost is $299 for three months.
• Get Buff Ladies Boot Camp, starting Aug. 11, at AndersonSnow Park, 1360 Anderson Snow Road, Spring Hill. Two sessions areavailable, one at 5:30 a.m. or one at 6:30 a.m.. Both will be onMondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The group is provided by masterpersonal trainer Kim Garcia. This is an outdoor boot camp for womenwishing to lose weight, gain strength, increase energy, improvemuscle tone, drop body fat and improve health. The cost is $169 forthe four-week program (12 classes). Registration must be made byAug. 8.

Kids can sharpen up their court skills
Brooksville Recreation Department will host Summer Basketball Camp4 Kids from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Aug. 8 at the JeromeBrown Community Center, 99 Jerome Brown Place, off Darby Lane.
The cost is $60 per camper, which includes a T-shirt and lunch.Aftercare will be available from 2 to 5:30 p.m. each day for anadditional $12 for the week.

Nature beckons from Chinsegut Center
Chinsegut Nature Center will host the following programs and eventsin August:
• Chinsegut Lichen Walk, 9 to 11 a.m. Aug. 5. The walk willbe led by Dr. Dana Griffin. Participants will learn about theunique lichens (fungus) at Chinsegut.
• Big Pine Night Walk, 8:30 to 10 p.m. Aug. 15. Participantsare to meet at the Big Pine Tract on Old Crystal River Road, northof Brooksville. Bring a flashlight and insect repellent.
• Introductory Archery Workshop, 9 to 11 a.m. Aug. 23.Equipment will be provided. Advance registration is a must.

Easy Street Home Decor and Spring Hill Art League will host a wineand cheese reception for artist Bob Corrigan from 7 to 9 p.m. Aug.6 at Easy Street, 848 E Jefferson St.
Corrigan graduated from Art Career School in New York in 1967 andhas won the Saint- Gaudens medal for fine draftsmanship at theMetropolitan Museum of Art. He works in all media and is known as aunique artist who "dares to be different" with his art.

The Ridge Manor Property Owners' Association will host a CandidatesNight at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 13 at the Ridge Manor Community Center,34240 Cortez Blvd.
A confirmed 27 candidates running for state and county seats willparticipate; more are pending.
Each candidate will have five minutes to speak. Once all havefinished, there will be an informal question-and-answer sessionwhen residents can have their questions addressed. Refreshmentswill be served.

Angel Food Ministries will be taking orders
Angel Food Ministries orders will be taken from 11:15 a.m. to 1p.m. Sunday at Christ Lutheran Church, 475 North Ave. W. Orderswill also be taken from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 5 and Aug. 8, from 9 a.m.to noon Aug. 9, and from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 10.
Angel Food is a nonprofit, nondenominational organization thatprovides grocery relief and financial support. The cost is $30 perunit, which retails for about $60. Payments can be made with cashor food stamps only.
Also available are specialty boxes, such as steaks, chicken andpork, for an additional cost.

Some cool cars lining up for a good cause
An Auction and Classic Car Show to benefit the Williams Family willbe from 4 to 8 p.m. Aug. 9 at Covenant Christian Church of God,15511 U.S. 41 (4 miles south of County Line Road).
The auction will begin at 5 p.m. There will be live musicalentertainment with music from the 1950s and '60s.
The event will include a bake sale. Also, hamburgers, hot dogs anddrinks will be sold.
All proceeds will benefit the family of Junior Williams, who isrecovering from severe head trauma from a boating accident on April21.

Seats open in Well Florida Council board
The Hernando County Commission is accepting applications fromindividuals interested in serving on the Well Florida Council Boardof Directors for a two-year period ending in September 2010.
There are vacancies for a consumer representative and a purchaserrepresentative. Consumers are those who do not provide healthservices and include, but are not limited to, elected officials,representatives of consumer organizations and the general public. Ahealth care purchaser is someone who is responsible for or is anauthorized member of an organization or agency responsible for thepurchase of health services for a group of five or more employees,either directly or through acquisition of health insurancecoverage.
Purchasers include, but are not limited to representatives ofindividual businesses, employer coalitions, government units, labororganizations, consumer groups and health insurers.
Applications are available in the County Administrator's Office,Room 460 of the Hernando County Government Center, 20 N Main St.,Brooksville. Completed applications must be returned to the officeno later than 5 p.m. Aug. 8.

A chance to stock up county classrooms
The United Way of Hernando County is seeking donations for itsStuff the Bus school supply drive for Hernando County's teachers.
This communitywide effort brings supplies to teachers andclassrooms. The local United Way has more than 200 requests fromteachers for supplies.
Donations of school supplies or gift cards can be dropped off atone of the following bus stops from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridaythrough Sunday:
• Staples, 4210 Commercial Way, Spring Hill.
• Publix supermarkets at 160 Mariner Blvd., 4158 MarinerBlvd. and 4365 Commercial Way, Spring Hill.

Another Bandshell Bash is coming up
Hernando County Fine Arts Council's next Bandshell Bash will befrom 4 to 8 p.m. Aug. 9 at Hernando Park, 205 E Fort Dade Ave.
This month's concert is a Country Music Bash. It will include theBrooksville Cruise-In, an antique hot rod and motorcycle show.There will also be food and beverage vendors.
The monthly Bandshell Bash is a free family event that is on thesecond Saturday of each month.
