CHAMPION jockey Clare Lindop yesterday spoke of her plan to becomethe first woman to win the Golden Slipper Stakes.
Lindop thinks the expected wet track bias in today's $3.5 millionGolden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill will help her make history onAugusta Proud.
Augusta Proud has drawn gate one and horses are expected to racewider later in the day after the track was rated slow yesterdaywith more rain predicted.
"If horses are racing wide I will be able to plot my owncourse along the fence and come out when I want," Lindop said.
"Just how she will handle the wet is something I don't know.Sebring is about the only horse proven in the wet and I suppose helooks the one to beat."
Lindop said she was looking forward to the challenge of winning theSlipper, even though she had never ridden in Sydney.
"I am sure I will be nervous," Lindop said.
Lindop has picked up the ride on Cash Carter in the second race atRosehill and will be able to test the track out wide from anoutside gate.
Trainer Leon Macdonald said Augusta Proud had raced three timesover 1200m and broken 1min10sec on each occasion.
Augusta Proud is not a quick beginner but Macdonald said shemustered speed quickly and he expected her to be in the first fouror five.
Krupt will have a veterinary check this morning to see whether hecan start in the Slipper but he has a small abscess on the off hindhoof.
The injury is being poulticed to draw out the poison and if herequires treatment this morning he will be scratched.
Hind leg injuries are not as serious as forelegs, which have tosupport most of the weight of a horse.
Stripper was scratched yesterday because she had an abscess on afore foot that required treatment to prevent the possibility oflaminitis.
David Hayes said the wet track had him baffled about how his fourrunners would perform but he was confident the Melbourne form wasstronger than Sydney form.
Gai Waterhouse, meanwhile, is confident Darren Beadman can maintainhis unbeaten record on Tuesday Joy in the $1 million BMW Stakes(2400m).
Beadman won last year's Coolmore on Tuesday Joy in heavy conditionsand the mare showed she was back to the same form, winning theRanvet (2000m) for Beadman. Share this article What is this?
