Simple Elegance Defines Spring Hair Accessories

Tag: Braid Hat

This season's hair fashions prove that shells can look stylish off the sand, braids can be used to frame faces, diamonds are not only good for rings, and scarves don’t only keep your neck warm on those chilly days:

Predicting styles can be no easy task -- consider, who knew that shells in your hair would ever be “in”? Usually when you step off the beach with sand and shells in your locks you head straight home to the shower, but Chanel has proven that a shell tiara can be perfectly stylish and delicate, on the runway or on the beach.

Braids around the face fit perfectly into the current spring safari trend. Khakis, browns, and huge wood bangles are complimented by braids going down one front of your head and wrapped around underneath, or even a few braids running down one side and into a twisted bun. Jessica Alba and Sarah Michelle Geller have been spotted with the lovely bohemian twists and turns in their hair this spring, pictured in April’s Bazaar. Similarly, straw hats are a new take on the tweed caps or wool beanies seen during the winter that also flatter this look. The ultimate cute and flirty straw hat is pictured on a model in May’s Glamour – straw with brown leather by Lisa Battaglia.

Braids and shells in the hair can be dressed up or dressed down, depending if you are in a bathing suit and cover up or a floor length gown. Scarves tend to be a bit less versatile, generally falling into the weekend-street category. Scarves can also be the most fun though since the pattern and color choices are never-ending. Wrapping a short scarf around your head like a headband and tying it to the side in a knot is cute and quirky. Try it with your hair tied into a bun or ponytail. Longer scarves can be tied around the head and left to hang down your back, or wrapped around the head and braided into a long braid. Although the braid is more difficult, it is worth it since it looks pulled together and stylish. Also, to compliment the bohemian or safari trend, a cute ribbon can tie a few front pieces of hair back to create a loose free-spirited hairstyle. Ribbon and scarf masterpieces are featured also in May’s Glamour.

Finally, to compliment a floor-length dress, diamond flowers or studs stuck into up-dos will never go out of style. The look is timeless and used by all of the beautiful women on the Red Carpet, from Hilary Swank to Jennifer Hudson. Both wore diamonds in their hair to the Oscars this year. Try your own take on this style, keeping it subtle and elegant.

The beauty of these hairstyles and accessories is that they are unique to each person. Every fashionista’s hair has different textures and volume, and therefore each style looks different. Don’t be afraid to try them all out and see which one best compliments your personality and hair.
