Liberty Shoes in buyout parleys in the UK

The company wants to expand aggressively in European countries, especially in the UK, a source said. In fact, it is in talks with several players in the UK.

On the domestic front, the company is particularly interested in acquisitions in eastern India.

Anupam Bansal, executive director, Liberty Shoes Ltd, said, "We are open for brand buyouts in the shoe category, but nothing has been finalised at this stage."

Liberty markets its shoes under various brands like Coolers, Footfun, Force 10, Fortune, Gliders, Senorita, Tiptopp, Warrior and Windsor.

The company manufactures 15 million pairs of footwear per annum. It posted a turnover of Rs 500 crore in the last financial year.

It has a 32% market share in the leather footwear category.

To expand its retail network across the world, especially in the Middle East, Indian subcontinent and eastern and western Europe, Liberty floated its first wholly owned subsidiary in the UAE in 2006 and invested Rs 1,653 crore there.

The company plans to open another 12 Revolution showrooms in the current fiscal and take the total number to 30. At present, there are 18 stores across the country.

The company is also planning to have 35 shop-in-shops at various departmental stores in the next 12 months. Liberty shoes are also marketed across the country through 150 distributors, 350 exclusive showrooms and over 5,000 multi-brand stores.
