Appeal over woman\'s body in river

The body of a woman, a 72-year-old who has not yet been named, fromthe Morpeth area, was recovered from the River Wansbeck onThursday.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "At this stage we are not in aposition to release her identity. Inquiries are continuing toestablish how she came to be in the river and at what time.

"Anyone who may have seen or spoken to a woman in her 70s, around5ft 2in, of large build, wearing a green coat, in Stobhill, fromaround midnight to 6.30am, is asked to get in touch."

It is believed the woman may have visited the newsagents in GrangeRoad, Stobhill, before she died.
