Men start to wear the trousers in the kitchen

Inspired by TV chefs such as Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsay, mennow want a bigger say when it comes to ordering a new kitchen, saysJackie Jones, owner of Denbigh Kitchen Centre.

Her observations are backed by new findings from kitchenmanufacturer Sigma 3 which show that with the single male householdon the rise, men are increasingly demanding state-of-the artgadgetry, sleek design and a wow factor from the most importantroom of the home.

"We used to get ladies coming in and picking what they wanted andmen would only get interested in the bottom line," said Jackiewhose business is located in Denbigh's Crown Lane.

But she added: "Cooking is now a man's thing ... we get a lot ofmen who cook and, I hesitate to say it, but they are usually bettercooks than women."

Why? Because, she says, men are "more adventurous" in the kitchenbecause they have more time to cook while women are also busy withlots of other household tasks such as washing and ironing.
