MIKE Carlton moaned on air that he was "too old for this shit" sixweeks ago and yesterday he further fried his patience - and hisoffsider's - with a second meltdown.
Carlton's 2UE sidekick, Sandy Aloisi was forced to intervene mid-rant, with an unprecedented verbalcrash tackle.
The 62-year-old father-to-be was playing the woman and not thepolitical football in an interview about World Youth Day policepowers.
State minister for WYD Kristina Keneally was explaining how the laws would work, denying police would vetprotest signs and T-shirts.
An insolent Carlton refused to accept the answer, calling Keneallya "thickhead" before Aloisi stepped in, reports mediawriter Marcus Casey .
Carlton's mood seemed to ebb, but erupted again.
Aloisi, six months into the job after 30 years in the newsroom andonce running 2UE as Carlton's boss, challenged and momentarilysilenced him.
"Listen Mike - Mike," she interrupted.
"I think you want to believe that it's draconian governmentthat's going to impose these rules - I would like to believe theMinister.
"I don't think I'm being naive - she says if you're notdisrupting proceedings no action will be taken. She has given us aguarantee - I want to believe it, why can't you?"
Aloisi said she was still learning to be an opinionated broadcasterand not an impartial journalist - but took a step up yesterday.
"I felt he was being too heavy-handed and was using the WorldYouth Day stick as another way of bashing the State Government so Isaid so," she said.
"But that didn't change anything off air - he was quite happyfor me to have a go and said 'Wow, where did that come from?"' Tools What is this?
