The Coppermine tournament was held last weekend in Lac du Bonnet.
Mike Ditoli ran a great event but I am told that he would not havepulled it off without his wife, she was the workhorse of thetournament.
The bite has been pretty decent on the river system with quite afew fatties being weighed in. I would like to congratulate BillMurray and Dean Randell as they took home first place with a weightof 21.40 pounds. Nice job guys, it's a big chore to land one hawg,never mind two! Their fish tipped the scales at 10.36 and 7.18pounds. I wish I could have been there to see the mayhem!
My buddies Steven Klopak and Ryan Sproule managed to stick a couplefatties as well. Their fish weighed 7.1 and 8.58 pounds, goodenough for second. John "big fish" Guzej and Marc Guzej had thebest bag of slots for the day and were third with 7.68 pounds.
Rounding out the top 5 were Terry Matthes and Daryl Kinght, 7.74pounds and local favorite and AYA champion Jack Nickle with hispartner Murray Dormer, 7.20 pounds.



I am off to Minaki to fish the Minaki Walleye Classic, hosted bypro-fisherman and all-round good guy J.P. Kennedy. This is one ofthe best tournaments of the season and word has it this could bethe largest field in years.
The current is howling on the whole Winnipeg River system so ensureyou wear your life-jacket.
With water temperatures rising, word on the water is that thewalleyes are now on the reefs! Jigs with minnows and leeches areworking well. Target areas from18-27 feet.
I fished the Never Alone Foundation fishing for a cure event lastweek at Lac du Bonnet. The annual tournament raised a pile of cashfor cancer. Thanks to all the guides that came out and helped.Tower Engineering did an outstanding job and put on the best eventyet.
I was lucky to fish with my buddy John Toone (the best net man inthe business) and long snapper Chris Cvetkovic of the Big Blue. Wemanaged to place third and had a blast on the water. Now if I couldteach Cvetkovic to keep his line out of the trolling motor he mightcatch some fish.
For those that have not been out on the Winnipeg River you need toget out there. The bite is steady and fish are coming into theboat. Try some Walker's leeches, these fatties bring hawgs into theboat.
There will soon be a new local fishing magazine on the shelves.Word has it that she is in full production and should be out nearthe end of the month.

The new jumbo cowgirls are in and are selling like hot cakes. Ifyou chase those toothy critters you may want to add this to yourselection. Cowgirls put over 250 musky over 50 inch in the boatlast year across North America. A huge feat by an outstanding lure.
Carrot rods will be in stock next week and the whole anglingcommunity is buzzing about these babies. Believe it, this has wonbest new rod in the USA. Get them while you can as they will gofast. Look like we finally have a bit of summer, get out there andtake a kid fishing.
