ALMOST every modern woman's wardrobe has at least one little blackdress, but the must-have item no longer has to be little or evenblack. For this week's launch of the Australian version of Project Runway,12 of Australia's best emerging designers created their idealversions of the little black dress - with a budget of only $50.

The designers, all contestants on the show, which is hosted bysupermodel Kristy Hinze, have shown there are now no rules for theLBD.

Sarah Gale, fashion buyer and Project Runway judge, says Australianwomen are less bound by tradition and are becoming more adventurousin their dressing.

"I think the little black dress has changed from years goneby," she says.

"Australian consumers are less predictable - they're takingdress-up pieces and dressing them down and casual wear and dressingit up."

But one element of the LBD is compulsory, the designers say: itmust be sexy.
