MILAN : R oberto Cavalli was not shy about shouting out his personal impact on the showSunday.
"All my own pictures," Cavalli said, referring to the ethnicpatterns, sunbursts of flowers and the branches of trees - butperhaps not to the deep-in-the-jungle animal prints on skimpy swimbriefs. But for the rest, Cavalli's camera had produced the visualimpressions that became a computer PlayStation for the prints.
Yet this "Bohemian Safari," as the designer named it, seemed morein the sunset colors and aura of sheltering skies. The long, darkstreak of clothing worn by folk/pop singer James Blunt in the frontrow set a tone for black, fitted blazers worn with baggy pants. This same taut-and-loose tailoring, perhaps with an engravedleather jacket, had a nautical feel to its cuffed bell-bottomedpants.
A different silhouette was created with skinny jeans. Thatstreamlined cool seemed more convincing than lush nature, as seenin the greenery traced on an orange backdrop. A giant palm leafprint smothered a rollneck top, while patchwork and embroideredjackets - and brightly colored mesh scarves - all suggested amagical hippie trail.
The different elements of the show never quite jelled, yet therewas plenty to like, especially colored shoes and belts and themetallic bracelets that gave a further touch of upscale exoticism.
