New School Construction
Crews work to clear more than forty acres to make way for the newWhale Branch High School in Beaufort County, SC. A spokesperson forBeaufort County Schools said it is being built in reaction toovercrowded classrooms. Currently they have about 25 children perclassroom and they would like about 20 students per class. It willcost the county about $30 million to build the school. It will betwo-stories and have soccer fields, a football stadium, and tenniscourts. They expect about 650 students to start school here onSeabrook Drive in about two years.
Uniforms
Uniforms may be on their way to all 27 schools in Beaufort.Currently. There are 13 schools that have the khaki pants andcollared shirt requirement. This includes 12 elementary schools andone middle school. School administrators said it will be moredifficult to get the high school students to adapt to the newuniform. There will be a number of meetings about the schooluniform proposal until the School Board meets in August. Here arethe meetings: July 24th, To Be Determined, 7 p.m. July 28th, WhaleBranch Middle School, 7 p.m. July 31st, Grays Hill CommunityCenter, 7 p.m.
Schools with Uniforms: MC Riley Elementary, Bluffton Elementary,Okatie Elementary, Hilton Head Island School for Creative Arts,Broad River Elementary, Shanklin Elementary, Shell PointElementary, St. Helena Elementary, St. Helena ELC, Port RoyalElementary, Beaufort Elementary, Lady’s Island Elementary,Lady’s Island Middle School.
