Nightclub attack victim was raped

An 18-year-old woman attacked outside a former nightclub was raped,police have confirmed.
The victim was dragged to the side of the old Cactus Jack club inCommercial Street, Darlington, by a man in his early 20s, early onSaturday.
Police said the attacker struck up a conversation with the womanafter following her through part of the town.
The suspect is between 5ft 5in (1.64m) and 5ft 8in (1.73m) tall,with short blond hair and a south-eastern accent.
He was wearing a white t-shirt with large lettering on the frontand dark jeans.
Det Insp Phil Curtis said the victim, who has been left "deeplytraumatised", left the Escapade nightclub in Gladstone Street atabout 0025 BST, with the intention of meeting a friend in GrangeRoad.
She realised a man was following as she walked across the KendrewStreet car park, and the attacker approached and then talked to heras they went through the underpass to the ring road.
The offender grabbed her by the arm as they left the underpass anddragged her down the side of the "isolated and unoccupied" formerclub.
Detectives want to speak to a group of four to six men and womanwho passed the victim and her attacker in the underpass.
CCTV footage from the area is now being studied by officers.
