China : Zipper industry faces tough competition from YKK

Jingjiang city's zipper industry is well known in China. But now YKK from Japan is turning out to be biggest opponent, for the local as well as for the industry nation wide.

Earlier, YKK was just a top-grade brand, but by producing middle-grade zippers, it is giving a huge challenge to the entire industry. To overcome this problem, Chinese zipper manufacturers have to adopt new strategies to regain the local market which is slipping away from their grip.

However, according to some of the zipper industry insiders, few of their products are even better compared to the quality of YKK, which shows that the local producers have made a big progress.

YKK is a competitor for Chinese zipper enterprises, in the middle as well as in top grade. Thus experts suggest, that the domestic industry will have to improve its quality and manufacture top-grade products if it wants to break the monopoly of the Group.

The price of clothing was down by 1.9 percent year-on-year. Of which, the price of garment dropped 1.9 percent. The price of durable consumer goods rose by 0.7 percent. The price of health care and personal articles increased 3.2 percent year-on-year.
