Tag : Difference Yam Sweet Potato
The U.S. Department of Agriculture requires the name“yam” always be accompanied by “sweetpotato.”

The yam is native to Asia and Africa, with a thick skin and white, orange or purple flesh.

Yams are an important source of starch and serve as a versatilefood in the tropics and subtropics.

The name “yam” is the Americanized version of theAfrican word “nyami.”

What instructions or rules apply to city dog owners as far asbarking, children walking them and picking up their deposits onlawns?

They’re our lovable friends, but dog behavior is certainly afrequent topic in “GYA.”

Never blame a dog when it misbehaves. There are no bad pets and acornucopia of bad owners.

There are items in Racine’s city ordinances dealing withbarking and deposits, but I found nothing regarding childrenwalking dogs.

The municipal codes page at http://www.cityofracine.org is home for all this great information. Use the Racine PublicLibrary if you wish to view the page but do not have Internetaccess.

Section 10-93 covers barking. If your dog habitually barks to thepoint where it causes others problems and disturbs the peace,it’s a public nuisance.

Section 10-99 covers waste. It’s your dog, which meansthat’s now your waste and you’re responsible forremoval. You may not leave it on another lawn or in the street. Youmust carry the appropriate tools for waste removal when walkingyour dog.

There’s only so much the police can do about pet issues. Callthem once and alert them to the problem, but don’t botherthem repeatedly. They’ll do what they can on the first visit.

Another way of addressing the problem is through peacefulmediation. One of Racine’s better kept secrets is theConflict Resolution office, 800 Center St., in Room 316. Call themat (262) 635-3327.
