1.5m tons of vegetable oil produced last year

A total of 1.5 million tons of vegetable oil was produced in thecountry last year, seven percent of which were exported to CentralAsian countries as well as Iraq and Afghanistan.
Announcing this, head of Iran's Vegetable Oil Association, MousaKhanmoradi said while visiting ongoing Tehran Foodstuff Exhibitionthat 35 percent of vegetable oil and 65 percent of hydrogenated oilwere produced during the period.
Given the fact the society has embarked on consuming vegetable oil,cooking oil industry in the country is also undergoing changes inthis regard, he said.
Currently, some 29 cooking oil producing factories are operating inthe country, he added.
Referring to the import of oil seeds to the country and an increasein price of the item on world markets, he further said that lastyear, oil seeds were imported at a price of dlrs 600 per ton whilethe figure reached dlrs 1,400 this year (started March 21).
Oil seeds production in the country is currently low and 85 percentof domestic needs are imported, he said.
Tehran Foodstuff Exhibition is currently underway and will rununtil August 1.
