Jeff Sullivan's Rescued Recipe for his Grandpa Staat's originalmarinade conjures up memories of his grandpa grilling up hissignature Shish Kebabs.
Jeff shares the story and the recipe that has become a familytreasure.
"My Grandpa Staat was an avid experimenter in the kitchen - a bitunusual for a man in the late 1950s. He came up with this marinadefor meat used in shish kebabs that to this day is the only recipe Iuse.
It's been copied, old paper to new paper, for years much like amonk would copy yet another gilded word. (Go back again; was that ateaspoon or a tablespoon? Yes, got it right.)
For me, this recipe screams "summer of 1950" and the smell ofhoneysuckle in the air, the drone of those two old Feddersair-conditioners mounted in the windows, football with the neighborkids on the front lawn and the comforting knowledge that mygrandparents would be coming over."
Grandpa Staat's marinade is not only full-bodied and fabulous, it'sgreat for basting veggies and chunks of chicken breast, too.
