Washington Potatoes to Be Featured on Public Broadcasting TV

Washington potatoes are sponsoring a 5-minute feature airing onpublic television, demonstrating quick recipes cooked withprocessed potato products.
The program, Spotlight On is an ongoing series of educationalshorts broadcasting nationally on public television for nearly 20years. Public TV stations air programs throughout the day as fillerwhen shows end before the hour. A particular program runs a year orlonger.
The Washington State Potato Commission contracted with StephenMoir, culinary instructor at Perth Amboy Vocational TechnicalCollege in New Jersey, and president of the American CulinaryFederation's Jersey Shore Chefs Association, to use his own recipesemploying dehydrated, chilled or frozen potato products. Moirappears in the video spots.
"We wanted it to be educational," says WSPC Assistant ExecutiveDirector Karen Bonaudi, "so people could discover some quick andeasy potato recipes, and also learn something about the potatoindustry."
Moir's recipes include gnocchi (potato dumplings) made from chilledmashed potatoes, a shepherds pie topped with frozen hash brownshreds, and a turkey roll containing chunky frozen home fries.
"There is no doubt about the potato products coming fromWashington," says Bonaudi. "Besides the field shots and factoids,the producer even worked in an Alaska Airlines Boeing jet!"
In addition to the broadcasts, the commission will post a videocompression of the program on its Web site at potatoes.com , along with the recipes.
