Does anyone brunch these days? The evidence says yes, yes, yes. There are many restaurants on the Seacoast that offer a fine brunchon Saturday and most usually, Sunday. Check them out.

It is impossible to name them all, but to give you a couple ofsuggestions, Radici offers a Bloody Mary brunch and the HiltonGarden Inn has a jazz brunch. It's not difficult to find more. Or, do brunch at your own home. In this time of rising costs, brunch is a relatively inexpensive meal to prepare for friendsand/or family. It can be more relaxing than a dinner party. Itdoesn't have to be that elaborate. It's perfect for summerentertaining. Begin with a giant selection of newspapers. Of course, thePortsmouth Herald, then the New York Times, The Globe, theWashington Post, you pick. But, have lots. Let each guest roamthrough the papers with a drink in their hands. Then, during brunchor afterward, each person can read aloud the wackiest or quirkieststory they found. Good conversation fodder. Good fun.

Brunch offers a good selection of drinks. It goes without sayingthat you must have good coffee on hand and some juices.Fresh-squeezed is best, but it you can't do this, don't fret aboutit. The alcoholic drinks will soothe the soul. Bloody Marys, Mimosas, Pimms Cup, Cape Codders, Harvey Wall bangers...; the list can go on and on. Even some nicely chilled localbeers or a very cold glass of a good, crisp Chardonnay.

If you are the kind of host who likes to do most of the preparationahead of time, this is a good menu for an outline. The variationsare endless.
