The Canadian export cherry season is about to come. The first exports should leave for the EU on July 10 -12. “This is five to seven days later than normal.” says Andre Bailey of Global Fruit Brokers Ltd. “The same cold spring that has decimated Washington State and our own North Okanagan crop has delayed our fruit by up to two weeks in other areas. Because of this we should be able to export Cherries into the first week of September. The crop appears to be sizing terrifically and the quality, as always, is fantastic.” Bailey continues “We are already seeing sizing of 28mm on the trees and are still ten plus days from harvest.” Apart from the North Okanagan region the Cherry crop is looking spectacular. With the Washington State crop being down 60% Canadian Cherries will command a premium in the world markets.

Canada is a world leader in Cherry development. The Sweetheart, Staccato, Sentennial, and Sovereign varieties were all developed in Summerland, BC, Canada.

Global Fruit Brokers Ltd. is a fruit brokerage based in Creston, British Columbia, Canada specializing in Export Quality Cherries by air. They represent 35+ GlobalGAP (EurepGAP) certified growers throughout British Columbia, Canada. The season will run from July 10th through September 3rd weather permitting.
