The Department of Agricultural Extension advises Thai farmers to improve the quality of tropical fruits in order to sell them to markets in Europe and the United States.

Deputy Director-General of the Department of Agricultural Extension, Olarn Phithak, says Thailand is one of the world’s key exporters of tropical fruits, especially pineapple, longan, mango, durian, mangosteen, and lychee. Last year, the country’s export value of fresh and processed tropical fruits exceeded 48 billion baht. China, Japan, and India are Thailand’s key markets.

Thailand has set a target to export tropical fruits of 50 billion baht this year.

However, the deputy director-general says the rising prices of fertilizers and other raw materials have affected fruit farmers. The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives is conducting a survey to see how many farmers have been affected by the high cost of production before distributing assistance to them.
