Palm Springs International Airport looks for boost in traffic

"We expect it could be a busy weekend and we're sending a signal toleisure travelers to come to Palm Springs and take advantage of thelong weekend," airport executive director Tom Nolan said. "We haveplenty of gated parking and beautiful weather."
Nolan said he could not predict how many people will visit PalmSprings by air this holiday weekend, but he said this time of yearis always busy in the desert.
Airports around the nation are gearing up for heavy holiday travel.
Earlier this summer, officials at Los Angeles International Airportpredicted passenger terminals at one of the world's busiestairports would be packed throughout the season and airlines wouldsee "mostly full flights."
Coachella Valley hotels were also expecting crowds for the Fourthof July holiday weekend.
"It's one of our busiest weekends for sure," said Emily Bird,director of marketing and public relations with Palm Desert's J.W.Marriott Desert Springs Resort and Spa.
She noted that despite expected triple-digit temperatures thisweekend, the hotel was filling up quickly and was already close toa 70 percent occupancy rate.
Bird said the resort would likely book even more rooms as theholiday weekend gets closer. "We're a well known destination spot," she said.
