Monday, May 26, is set aside this year to remember, honor and commemorate the loss of countless American military men and women, and to honor their families. Here are a few events to help celebrate these remarkable people and their sacrifice for their country.

Santa Maria Veterans invites the community to remember and thank our veterans, noon to 3 p.m. Monday, May 26, at Pioneer Park, 1000 W. Foster Road, Santa Maria. Tri-tip barbecue sandwiches and fixin’s will be served and there will be patriotic entertainment. Cost: $10, students $5, free for ages 5 and younger and active military personnel. Memorial Day ceremonies and a laying of the wreaths will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, May 26, by American Legion Post 534 at Pine Grove Cemetery, Bradley and Stubblefield Roads in Orcutt. The Post will be assisted by Boy Scout Troop 91 and Cub Scout Pack 91, Dens 1 to 5. There will be refreshments at Post 534, 145 W. Clark Ave., Orcutt. The public is welcome. Free. It’s an all American show when Coastal Voices presents an encore performance of their spring concert, “Rodgers and Hammerstein with a Lot of Hart,” at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 31, at St. Andrew United Methodist Church, 3945 S. ORCUTT, June 23 to 27: The sun will come out for a Pismo Beach Youth Theater weeklong summer camp, for ages 6 to 14, all about the musical “Annie.” Camp meets 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day at Your Orcutt Youth Organization, 725 E. SANTA BARBARA, May 24: Art from Scrap Workshops for artists of all ages are held at the Community Environmental Council, 302 E. Cota St. Have fun making “River Critters,” 10 a.m. to noon. Cost: $6 per person. Children age 5 and younger must be under adult supervision.SANTA BARBARA, May 28 — “Take Time Out for Stories!” as the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, 1130 State St., invites children, their parents and grandparents to listen to stories selected from works illustrated in the museum’s exhibition, “Over Rainbows and Down Rabbit Holes.” Stories are read 3 to 3:30 p.m. in the Robert and Marlene Veloz Children’s Gallery. EXTRA, EXTRA

AVILA BEACH, to Nov. 28: “Art on the Beach at Avila” continues from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays in the Plaza near the Avila Pier, weather permitting. Central Coast artists from SLO county will be painting, drawing, displaying and selling their original works of art. Each week an artist will select a work to be raffled to benefit the El Camino Art Association’s Scholarship Fund for local high school students. Info: 773-2383.
