AE Biofuels plans to build and operate its own commercial-scale plants

AE Biofuels president and chief operations officer Andy Fostersaid Montana was selected for the companys first demonstrationfacility because the facilitys technology was originally developedthere and the expertise resides there.

We believe the powerful combination of our ambient temperatureenzyme technology, access to multiple feedstocks, and reducedenergy and water consumption place us at the very leading edge ofnext-generation ethanol, Foster said. Combined with our biodieselproduction, AE Biofuels is well positioned to lead the verticalintegration of the biofuels industry.

Attendees at the grand opening event included Sen. Max Baucus,D-Mont., Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer, and Paul Dickerson, chiefoperating officer at the U.S. DOEs Office of Energy Efficiency andRenewable Energy.

Baucus said the Butte plant is a step in the right directiontowards Montanas role in lessening the countrys dependence onforeign oil. Im especially proud that Montana can help pave theway and be a leader in boosting domestic energy production, hesaid.

Dickerson reiterated the DOEs commitment to developing clean,renewable, sustainable biofuels. He said a wide range oftechnologies is needed to address the nations energy challenges.

According to Foster, the company is planning to name a location forits first commercial-scale facility in mid-2009. Once the processis perfected at the Butte facility, AE Biofuels plans to use it tobuild and operate its own commercial-scale plants, as well asmarket the technology to other corn-ethanol producers.
