Seeds of Compassion benefit concert
[2008-4-16]
The long-announced events of the "Seeds of Compassion" conference starting today with the Dalai Lama have long been sold out — but a more recently announced benefit concert will give music lovers an opportunity to participate in the international "Seeds of Compassion" initiative.
Called "Seeds for the Spirit: an Evening of Music, Art and Dance," the McCaw Hall concert at 7 p.m. Monday will feature a substantial lineup of musicians and speakers.
Grammy Award-winning instrumentalists Tingstad & Rumbel will perform music for guitar and woodwinds; photographer Phil Borges will present international photographs and digital stories shared by youths from around the world; and the Yuval Ron Ensemble performs mystical music from the Middle East, with vocalist Sukhawat Ali Khan and Sufi whirling dervish Aziz.
Also on tap at this event: civil-rights pioneer the Rev. Samuel McKinney; Ishmael Beah, a former child soldier from Sierra Leone and the author of "A Long Way Gone"; and vocalist/composer Gina Salá.
Tickets cost $65, but there are some VIP packages available at $350. VIPs will receive preferred seating at the concert and a private reception afterward, and the first 100 VIP requests will also receive one ticket to the sold-out Seeds of Compassion InterSpiritual Day (being held at the Bank of America Pavilion, 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday).
The entire cost of the VIP package goes to support Seeds of Compassion.
